Germany, Medal c. 1644, "Peace Negotiations during the Thirty-Year War"

Description:

Another specimen is known dated 1644 and with the initials SD: made by the famous medallist Sebastian Dadler while working for the Holy Roman Empire. His medals are all of a very high quality, and this one is no exception.

Obverse: allegorical figures of War and Peace in battle. To left, hand holding a globe, to right spear and shield leaning on broken tree. Inscription around: "AMBIGUO PAX ET BELLUM LUCTAMINE CERTANT PAX EUROPA VOVET LAETA TROPHAEA FERAT!"

Reverse: An allegorical scene of Peace crushing War, set against the background panorama of the city of Münster. To the sides Justice and Wealth, around the inscription "LAETA TROPHAEA TULIT VICTO PAX OPTIMA BELLO NUNC TEMIS IN TERRAM ET COPIA PULSA REDIT"
