Grand Prix stolen blev introduceret første gang i 1957 på Kunsthåndværkernes Forårsudstilling på Kunstindustrimuseet i København. Senere samme år blev den vist på Triennalen i Milano og modtog her "Grand Prix" prisen - deraf navnet i stedet for 3130, som den oprindelig blev døbt.
